Shout-Out: Divine Disaster Relief | WNC
Welcome to this week’s #ShoutOutWNC Saturday with Appalachia Relief!
This is our weekly salute to the grassroots organizations that deliver on-the-ground relief and recovery aid throughout Western North Carolina.
Today, we’re spotlighting Divine Disaster Relief.
Based in WNC, Divine Disaster Relief serves McDowell, Buncombe, Haywood, Yancey, and Madison Counties. Since Hurricane Helene, they have set up 55 hot tents and 38 campers, sponsored 6 families with paid lot rents at local campgrounds, raised funds for building supplies, coordinated rebuilds, and provided essential advocacy for survivors.
But they don’t stop at our borders. As the February 2025 flooding emergency unfolds across Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia, Divine Disaster Relief is on the front lines there as well.
In their own words:
“WNC families and those in KY/WV/VA: We are actively working to serve our hubs that have been established from the flooding in the past week. Also, we are still working on servicing our WNC families and housing those individuals through camper donations. We’re here for the long term and just got accredited for Disaster Case Management.”
Divine Disaster Relief’s ongoing work includes:
- Coordinating and distributing essential supplies
- Vetting and delivering temporary housing
- Conducting disaster cleanups—debris removal, muck outs, and demolition
- Fundraising and aiding those denied insurance or FEMA assistance
- Organizing projects to rebuild private roads and bridges
- Offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on
